The word TRAIL is one of a profusion of English terms to have entered the modern Italian lexicon.
For Italians, the word has come to take on a different significance to the original meaning in English.
When Italians say 'trail' they mean the activity of running in the midst of nature.
In two words it can be expressed, as 'natural running'.
You could even say that before being a sporting discipline it's a philosophy.
The first release that the trail runner experiences is inside him or herself: the introspective aspect of the run that leads to a rediscovery of the ancient connection between man and nature.
That may sound like a contradiction ('the first release is inside the self') but without this new awareness it might not even be possible to face the challenges the trail involves.
Only by lacing up their running shoes and getting out on the course will runners find out how they respond to these challenges.
One thing is sure: no two people experience trail in the same way!
